2 More Wake ups & Its Go Time

We are in the final stretch till our Disney vacation begins. Well actually we are only 2 days away until two weeks of vacation begins, ha! We get to spend one week in FL and then the week of Christmas in SC. This family is so excited and so ready!! We are in need of some r&r time. Life has been crazy lately and we are ready for some relaxing, sunny, magical days. Though we know will be at Disney World at one of the busiest, craziest times of the year (especially the last few days of our trip), we are still trying to make an effort to keep this trip low key and as unscheduled as possible. We want to have fun and enjoy as much of Disney as is possible but we also want to keep the stress out of the vacation and that requires keeping expectations low. The simple goal of the this trip is to have as much fun as possible and make lots of memories. We have even changed up our itinerary a little to try and minimize the stress and agony that can come with Disney vacation with 3 kiddos under 6. I heart vacations especially at Disney World. I look forward to next week where I truly will get a vacation myself. I will have no beds to make, no laundry to do, no meals to cook or clean up after, no housework. My only tasks next week as a mom is to give the kids baths, get them dressed everyday, wash up bottles & sippy cups and make sure my kiddos have the best time! I think I am up to the challenge ;)

Friday Favorites

Disney Edition:
Our Favorite Restaurants

Since our family vacation to Disney World is just a mere few weeks away, I thought I'd share some our favorite spots to eat while at Disney World. Some of them are a hands down must do if you have little ones and some are just plain good places to eat. While cost is not a factor in my reviews or opinions because we have never been to Disney World not on a dinning plan. We feel this works best for us. Our entire trip including food is paid for before we even check in and although we include additional funds in our Disney budget for more snacks or an extra meal here and there, the dinning plan just makes our life and the vacation easier. And don't forget to make your reservations ahead of time, most of the restaurants book fast and waiting for over an hour for a good place to eat is not my idea of a vacation.

Character meals are a favorite for us because it is a double duty stop. We get to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the park, eat some yummy food, and meet some favorite Disney characters. Our two favorites for these in Magic Kingdom are The Crystal Palace and Cinderella's Royal Table. We love Hollywood & Vine with Disney Jr. Pals at Hollywood Studios. Another favorite is Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall at Epcot.

The past few trips to Disney World, we have given ourselves two days in Magic Kingdom. This has the most fun for all of us and the kids can ride just about everything. Thus, we have eaten a dozen times there over the past several trips. Liberty Tree Tavern is a new favorite. It has yummy food and we will be eating there again. We have been to Tony's Town Square several times and it does not disappoint. They have a great Italian menu.

Two favorites at Hollywood Studios is Mama's Melrose Ristorante Italiano and the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater. Both have great food in an awesome atmosphere. The Yak & Yeti in Animal Kingdom is great, quiet place for some tasty Asian cuisine. We always dine there on our Animal Kingdom day.

All the hotels especially the moderate & deluxe resorts have amazing restaurants as well. We typically always dine at our hotel's main restaurant during our stay. We have also done Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort and Cinderella's Happily Ever After Dinner at 1900 Park Fare which is at the Grand Floridian Resort.

The food is one of my favorites at Disney World and part of the perks of being on vacation. We get to enjoy yummy meals and snacks all day long. And this mama does not have to cook the meal or clean up afterwards is a huge plus especially when on vacation :)

Weekend Recap

I heart long weekends! I am thankful the Army typically gets a 4 day for most holidays and that my soldier was home this year to enjoy it with. We have had a great time. We always try to make the most of these long weekends.

Wednesday morning the BN Rear D had a family fun run so we woke up early and headed onto Post to walk with daddy and his soldiers. Luckily it was only about 1.5 miles total and the boys sat in the double jogger and P walked. It was a success and lots of soldiers had their families or dogs with them. Afterwards, a bunch of us all went to breakfast together. P went back to work with Brandon and I headed home with the boys. After I laid Scott down for his morning nap, I got to work on whipping up the casseroles for the Thanksgiving meal. We spent most of the afternoon playing outside. Then we decided to head out to town to get some dinner. We ended up at the new Panera Bread and it did not disappoint. After that we went down to the Riverwalk to see all the Christmas lights. It was a great night for it and all the lights were beautiful. We let the kiddos play on the playground before heading back to the van and heading home. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving was on TV that night and we all enjoyed watching it.

Thursday morning we woke up and had monkey bread for breakfast. Then I got to work on cooking the pumpkin pie. Mimi & Papa were on their way to see us from Wisconsin so we planned to wait to eat our meal till 330/4. After I laid Scott down for his morning nap, we prepared the turkey and got it into the oven. Brandon took P and Henry up to Walmart to get the newspaper so we could check out all the Black Friday ads. The weather was very nice that day so we soaked up some outside time. I finished up cooking that afternoon and we all sat down to eat around 4. It was all very yummy and we were thankful to have Mimi & Papa to share the meal with. That night after we got the kids all ready for bed and laid Scott down, Brandon & I left to venture out into town and check out some of the sales. We made a pit stop at Steak n Shake for a little snack. Then we waited in line outside of Toys R Us for almost 1.5 hours before making our way in. We found the toys we were looking for and checked out then walked over to the Target. Our goal was to score the RCA dual 7" portable DVD players that they had for $59 which was $70 off the original price. That place was a made house but thankfully they still had some of the DVD players so we grabbed one and a few other things and got in line. We waited over an hour just to check out. We stopped at Walmart before heading home but we didn't see anything there. All in all, it was kind of fun night!

Friday we had already planned to take the kiddos bowling on Post at Hooper's. They were giving away 3 free games for Black Friday. We all had lunch at Zaxby's before splitting off. Papa stayed home with Scott and Mimi came with us to bowl. It was crowded but luckily we scored a lane. The kids loved it! It was a lot of fun for all of us. That afternoon Brandon started decorating the outside of the house for Christmas. Its still coming together but it looks so pretty. Scott loved looking at the lights. We all had leftovers for dinner. Then after all the kids were ready for bed, Brandon and I went on a date to the movies. We saw Lincoln and it was very good! I definitely recommend it.

Saturday morning my dad headed back to Wisconsin. Peighton, Mimi & I went down to Nashville to do some shopping at the Opry Mills Mall while Brandon stayed home with the boys. We had a good time but after we broke for lunch the mall was getting unreasonably crowded. We did a few more stores then headed on home. That afternoon Brandon finished decorating the outside for Christmas as well as put the tree up in the house and I decorated it with ornaments. We ordered pizza for lunch and watched some football. So proud of the South Carolina Gamecocks in another victory over their rival Clemson! It was a good game!!

Sunday was a bit of a lazy day. I caught up on some laundry. We all went and had some lunch then stopped by Target to pick up a few things then headed to the museum for some play time for the kiddos. All 3 munchkins had fun and played hard! We came back home and let Scott take his afternoon nap. Brandon grilled pork chops for dinner. We had our usual nightly routine and all the kids had their baths. Nice, quiet end to a great long weekend!! But we are ready to get back to our normalness ;)

A Weekend in Wisconsin

This past weekend we headed out on an adventure and headed northwest towards Oak Creek, WI. My dad's job currently has him working at the Caterpillar plant in South Milwaukee. Last weekend my parents met here in Clarksville and my mom headed back with my dad. They wanted to take Henry back with him and it worked out well that the following weekend was a four day so we would be able to travel up there and pick him up. Henry had a great week at Mimi & Papa's and soaked up the one on one time he got every day! On Friday morning Brandon, Peighton, Scott and I headed out and made the journey without too much trouble and arrived about 9 hours later in Oak Creek. Henry was so happy to see us and we were to see him even P! That night we had pizza for dinner and a quiet night in the apartment. Saturday Brandon, Papa and I took Henry to the park and let him play while Scott took his morning nap and P had some bonding time with Mimi. Then we headed to the Apple Holler. It was a very neat place. They had a restaurant where we ate a yummy lunch. But they also had a petting zoo, a maze, a playground and lots more activities for the kiddos. After lunch, we let them play out there for well over an hour. It was lots of fun for all of us! That night my parents watched all 3 munchkins so Brandon and I could have a date night. We went and explored downtown Milwaukee and had an amazing dinner at Rock Bottom Brewery. Then we did lots of walking around. It was so nice to just spend some time together! We really appreciated it :) Sunday morning we woke up and checked the weather and they were calling for some snow that night. We made the decision to head on home after lunch due to the unknown with the weather forecast. My dad had to go to work for a few hours so while Scott took his morning nap Brandon & I took P and Henry back to the park until time to meet my dad for lunch. We loaded up the car, ate lunch with Mimi & Papa then headed back out on the road. It was very windy most of the drive and it rained the rest of the trip after we stopped for dinner. But luckily the kids did well and we were home by 930 that night. We had a great visit and enjoyed getting to see another part of the country :)

Disney Details

Oh I am so ecstatic to share some more details of our upcoming Disney World vacation!! 81 days is the new countdown!! We are so busy as a family between now and then that those days will pass by quickly. And because we are taking two days to drive down to Orlando we will actually be hitting the road in 80 days ;) We are trying to make this time in Disney as low key and calm as possible. We tend to be type A people when it comes to planning our Disney trip and though we have planned lots of activities in advance, we've also kept most of the days open so we can go with the flow and not be rushed. Hence why we decided on just the basic dinning plan this time around. It includes 1 snack, 1 quick service meal (think fast food) and 1 table side meal per paying person which in our case equals Brandon, Peighton and myself. So therefore we only have one reservation for a meal each day and thus only one locked in time that we must be somewhere. The goal of this trip is to enjoy the holiday season in Disney, soak up some great family time and have lots of fun in the process. This trip is the kiddos big Christmas present so we want to make it about them as much as possible. Here is a look at our itinerary.

Day 1:
Arrive in Orlando
Check-in to Hotel

Quick Service Meal for Dinner

Day 2:

Scott Update

Our little scooter is now 9 months old!! He is still our content, lovable little boy!!! I feel like he has changed so much these past few months. He is becoming less baby and more toddler with every accomplishing milestone. Scott is mobile and even though he has yet to master crawling on his hands & knees, he gets to where he wants to go all on his own. He has been working on getting back to the sitting position from crawling as well pulling up to his knees in a standing position. He eats mostly table foods now and is still working on drinking out of sippy cup. Here are some more stats on how our chunky monkey is doing:

  • 22 pounds (75%)
  • 29 inches in length (75%)
  • in 12 month and 18 month clothing
  • sleeps 10-11 hours at night
  • most days he takes 2 two hour naps
  • currently has 2 bottom teeth with another bottom tooth and his two top teeth coming through
  • babbling and drooling
  • can say "dada"
I feel so blessed to have another healthy, thriving, developing little boy!!! :)

Disney Bound

Well in less than 90 days, this Doggette family will be headed to Disney to celebrate the Holiday season as well as one special little boy's first birthday!!! We are so excited for this trip! As most know or have figured it out, we LOVE going to Disney World. And though we have many numerous times between Disneyland and Disney World, we have never been during Christmas time. It has been on our family bucket list for quite some time. We have also been itching to go check out the new Fantasyland addition that is opening just a few weeks before we arrive. It was fate that we go this year! Plus, Brandon and I thought it would be so much more fun and memory filled to go on a nice, fun family vacation for Christmas this year. So we researched, plan, brainstormed, discussed and came up with a week full of activities and adventures. We are stoked and even more excited that the countdown is well under way. Disney's salute to the military is an awesome discount and special and without such a great deal we would not be able to go especially not twice in one year. Plus with both boys being under 3 still, we only have to pay for P making it a much more affordable and doable. As part of the salute to the military, all the deluxe resorts are forty percent off. We picked the Wilderness Lodge and even choose bunk beds this time for P and Henry. Its on the Bay Lake by the Magic Kingdom. Its similar to the Grand California in Disneyland and it is inspired by the Great American Northwest National Park.

We cannot wait to arrive here and spend a week on vacation as our little family of five!! We will be staying December 18-23. We arrive on Tuesday afternoon and depart Sunday morning to head up to SC to spend the week of Christmas with our families. I cannot wait to see the hotel and all the parks including Downtown Disney are decked out and decorated for Christmas. Its going to be so magical :)

Adventures in Eating

As Scott approaches the 9 month mark later this month, I can't believe how good of an eater he is. Sometimes I have to remind myself that he is not even a year old yet. He eats so well! There's a popular book called Baby Lead Weaning and basically describes letting your baby not only self feed from an early age but offering what you cook & eat as a family for his meals. The premise is giving your baby food beyond the typical baby food and that most babies who eat table food early on turn out to be better eaters. I was intrigued and knew that Scott had to become a better eater than our picky Henry. So we started out experimenting with different table foods mostly whatever I cooked for dinner and he ate it. Its really simple and "old school" way of feeding babies long before there was Gerber. And to this day, there is nothing he doesn't like. He never spits it out and seems to enjoy most of the foods we offer him. Some meals are easier than others. I am learning to find foods that he enjoys for breakfast and lunch since those are the meals we typically do not eat as a whole family. Scott usually gets a few items for each meals.. most of them are finger foods (things he can feed himself) and then one spoon fed item such as yogurt, mashed potatoes, applesauce, etc. Sometimes I will mix a baby food item with plain, regular yogurt and give that to him. All in all, he mostly prefers the table foods. He eats really well for them at Hourly Care as well. I always tell them to feed him what ever is offered for lunch and see how he does prior to just giving him baby food; and so far, he always eats the table food. He eats what we eat so much that he now prefers those flavors over baby food. We've also introduced a sippy cup within the past week or so. Sometimes he just gnaws on it and other times he actually drinks out of it. But its a process just like anything else and I know in time he will adapt to it. We just might have to try a few different types of sippy cups before we get the "right" one.
our favorite brand of baby food. these are great for on the go.

we recently tried these and he loves them.

stuffing his face, ha!

sippy cup time.

always smiling.

CPT Promotion

Well folks the day finally came... Brandon was promoted to Captain this past Thursday!! We were so happy as a family to see that day come. It was well deserved and earned on Brandon's part. I might be a bit bias but I think he is an awesome soldier and always strives above and beyond. He has the heart and the discipline for the job. I am so proud of him and all of his endeavours. He is an amazing example to our boys! The ceremony went well and lasted only about 10 minutes. Of course, I cried as did he (although he wouldn't want to admit that but he did.. he can't help it). He gave a heartfelt speech afterwards that choked us both up. He is a good man and though him staying behind as Rear D is great for our family, his heart is going with his "guys" down range... that's just who he is and why I love him.   We have been blessed with an amazing Army family here at Fort Campbell. Brandon and I both have wonderful examples and mentors around us. We look forward to the future in the ARMY!

Here are some pictures from the event:

P's in Kindergarten

Well folks the official start of school has come and gone in this house! P is an official kindergartener :) Her unofficial day was this past Wednesday. It was her assigned testing/transitioning day. There were only a few kids that attended that day with her. The day was designed to help the teacher assess where each kid is level wise plus give the kids a day to get use to the environment. That day was a success! I walked her into her class and she didn't even blink. When I picked her up that afternoon, she couldn't wait to tell me all about it. Then Friday everyone in Kindergarten had their first day. That was another successful day as well. P is settling in her classroom's schedule and adjusting to the long day. She loves eating her lunch in the cafeteria. And Fridays the kids can purchase ice cream for a treat. We are still adjusting to our new routine and life as well. The mornings haven't been too difficult. Thankfully, we are mornings don't start too early and the school is just down the road. We typically need to leave the house by 820 and it takes about 15 minutes in the car rider's line. Henry is getting use to not having his sister to play with during the day and look forwards to picking her up from school in the afternoons. P is really going to get immerse in school this week as it will be her first full week... Monday through Friday... seven hours each day... makes for a long week for a 5 1/2 year old. I feel she will get use to it no time and is up for the challenge in the school year ahead!

P on her first day :)

Catch All Update

Life has been busy around here! Not sure when it got so crazy but it is and there is no sight of slowing down any time soon. The motto for us around here is the days are long and the nights are short :)

  • I have put on my FRG leader hat again and am now the FRG leader for HHC in the 3STB. The position has been only mine for about a month but it keeps me busy. Meetings, huddles, pre deployment briefs, etc have all been on the agenda these past few weeks.
  • The Battalion Chaplain hosted a Leaders' Marriage Retreat this past weekend at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville. It was a great weekend!! We had never been there and that place was awesome. We checked in Friday night and didn't leave the hotel until Sunday afternoon. There is that much to do inside that place. There was only one session we had to attend on Saturday morning and they provided child care for that. All 3 kids did well and had no issues. Then we had a couple of free hours for family time. All five of us had some yummy lunch at the pizza place in the hotel and did lots of exploring. We rode the boat around the Delta section. That was pretty cool. We also had child care that evening for a couple of hours for all the couples to have date night. That was much needed and very appreciative. Brandon and I enjoyed a fabulous meal. It was nice just to have some quiet "us" time. After we picked up the kids from child care, we sat by the fountains and watched the nightly water works show. P and Henry enjoyed that :) Sunday morning we had breakfast with Shrek and friends at the Hotel. P was very excited about this and enjoyed getting to meet a few characters. We did some more roaming as well as packed up the van and checked out. We grabbed some lunch at the burger joint in the hotel before heading over to the Opry Mills Mall next door to do some tax free back to school shopping. It was a great mini vacay for our family before school and deployment gets rolling!
  • Speaking of school, we are down to home stretch before school starts for Miss P. School for the Clarksville Montgomery County started back today but Kindergarten doesn't begin till next Friday. On Monday night, we had Meet the Teacher. We found out the P's teacher is Mrs. Allbert and currently there are only 13 kids in her class. There was a Parent-Teacher meeting this morning for student and parents. Brandon took P and it was a very informative meeting. We have lots of paperwork to fill out and turn in. P will go next week on Wednesday for her testing date. She is getting excited as well as anxious. I think she will be good once she goes next Friday and starts the every day adventures.
  • Brandon also received GREAT news we have been waiting on for some time. The list was published on Tuesday so its now official he has been promoted to CPT. YAY!!! We have been waiting for this for months and are so thrilled and relieved that its finally happening. He will be promoted on September 1 and his promotion ceremony will be held on August 30. I am SO proud of him and all his endeavors. I  cannot wait to "pin" him his double bars in a few weeks. I have missed all of his officer promotions up to this point. It will be a big day for the whole family :)

Kid Kuddos

I feel like I haven't been blogging as much as I should or as much I'd like to. I also feel like I am failing in the department of picture taking. We have an awesome Nikon and it sits in the living room on top of our tv armoire and yet I never remember to take any. Thank goodness for my iPhone and Facebook. I can easily snap a great photo with my phone and load to Facebook so at least I'm sharing in that way. However, I do feel bad that little Scott has very few actual pictures that I have taken. Poor guy! He gets a lot of coverage with my iPhone but not so much with the regular camera. (#majormomfail) My goal is try and take more pictures of all 3 of them and hopefully get some actual professional pictures done of them as well. Its been since the end of 2010 since P and Henry had professional pictures done and of course Scott has not had any. I need to put that on my bucket list for this year! Nevertheless, I thought I would give some random updates on how the munchkins are doing and share some pics as well :)

  • This summer has been hot and what better way than to spend it at the pool. And thank goodness all 3 of them including Scooter are all little fishes when it comes to the water. P is getting so much better at swimming this year. She is learning to hold her nose and swim under water as well as float on her back. I am so thankful neither P nor H are scared of the water and Scott just sits and splashes and kicks his legs. He is a huge fan of the pool :)
  • P starts kindergarten in less than a month! Where has the time gone?!?! August 8 is her first day but we will just be having a short day where we just meet the teacher then receive a testing date for the following week then August 17 is her first full day. No turning back then, ha. She is so excited and ready. I know she is going to be just fine. Looking forward to buying her school supplies and some back to school clothes later this month!! YAY :)
  • Scott is growing so fast!!! He is developing and learning new things everyday. He is getting well at sitting on his own and loves to stand. He is just a content, happy, go lucky guy! And he has been sleeping upstairs in his crib every night for over a week now. I am so happy. Him and Henry share a room and its always been a concern how it would work. But they both do really well. Scott has been sleeping just fine with no problems. I typically lay Scott down after Henry has gone to bed and Henry doesn't even stir when I put Scott up there in the crib. Usually Scott is the first to wake up but doesn't wake up H allowing him to sleep until he wakes on his own.
  • Henry is growing up to be such a big boy! He is finally talking more and can more words that we actually understand. Its such a relief. He is learning to recognize his letters too. Henry enjoys going to the Hourly program on post and will be attending more regularly once P starts school. He loves getting to play with other kids and learns so much from there.
trying yogurt for the firs time, loved it!

happy little guy!

P and Henry checking out Fort Donelson.

sitting all by himself :)

sleepy little boy... passed out in the bouncer.
